Baths: For Detoxification and More!

There is more to a bath than just cleanliness. A detoxification bath enhances relaxation by using herbs and essential oils to relieve symptoms of fatigue and release toxins that excrete through the skin. Here are a few classic detox bathtips that provide some bold results.
For Sleep
Lavender and chamomile are both essential oils that work in concert to help the body relax and promote restful sleep. Add approximately three drops of each essential oil to a very warm bath and soak for 10 minutes or longer. A good night’s sleep is the body’s natural way of detoxifying and reducing stress.
To Replenish Skin
Natural essential oils can be used in a detox bath to revitalize the skin as well. The skin is an organ by itself and requires care like the rest of the body. Oils work well in a replenishing detox bath. Olive oil and sweet almond oil work as a good base for using essential oils in the bath aimed at skin detoxification. Take two tablespoons of a carrier oil, add 5 to 15 drops of your favorite essential oils, and add the mixture to very warm water. Some essential oils are thought to promote mental clarity. These include Lemongrass, rosemary or peppermint.
For Refreshment
Salt baths date back to ancient Roman times. Each type of salt has specific properties that have shown benefits in relieving muscle and body aches. It also plays a part in the osmosis effect of allowing toxins to be released more readily in the skin. Dead sea salt and Epsom salts are the strongest salts to use for this purpose.
For Alertness
Clay and seaweed are like wicks to toxic metals found in the body. Bentonite clay is a powerful ingredient to add to a detoxification bath. It aids in relaxation and helps draw metals out of the skin. Seaweed works in a similar way by aiding in relaxing muscles and encouraging strong blood flow. You can add a few drops of essential oils as well to increase the benefits. To help reduce fatigue, try grapefruit, thyme, geranium or clary sage.
