Dr. Oz’s Top Three Supplements
Supplements have become so popular over the last decade that stores seem to be bursting at the seams with them. However, with so many vitamins, minerals and herbs from which to choose, it can be hard to know which ones will most benefit one’s health. In addition, there are numerous strengths, brands and styles of supplements, which is sometimes enough to make some throw up their hands in frustration.
Doctor Mehmet Oz, the respected surgeon and television host, points individuals in the right direction with his top three supplement recommendations. These are smart choices for most age groups and are common enough that they can be found most anywhere that supplements are sold.
Each offer amazing lifelong health benefits and although Dr. Oz recommends many other supplements depending on a person’s specific health issues, these are the three that he states are essential.
A Mutivitamin
Because there are so many multivitamins, Doctor Oz recommends choosing this daily supplement with care. Many multivitamins offer huge portions of some vitamins and minerals that are far over the recommended daily allowance. Doctor Oz also suggests choosing one that has no more than 100% in each category, splitting it in half and taking part in the morning and part at night for the best utilization of the vitamins.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
These fatty acids are commonly found in coldwater fish. However, those who do not eat fish on a regular basis may not have enough of these fatty acids in their diets and should choose a supplement. Omega-3’s do a great deal for one’s health, including decreasing triglycerides and reducing the risk for such diseases as depression and dementia.
Calcium with Magnesium
Doctor Oz recommends finding a supplement that includes both of these minerals because magnesium can help cancel out the constipation that may come from calcium. He also recommends taking this supplement at a different time from the multivitamin to acquire as much of the bone and tooth strengthening effects as possible.
